Everything in the universe is good to the degree it conforms to the nature of God and evil as it fails to do so. (A.W. Tozer)
- I realized through the refining of my spirit over the last few days how simplistic my synopsis was of the role superheroes play in the lives of young children. It made it seem so apparent that choosing good was always so clearcut when in actuality we often put our personal spin on what is true. Elly demonstrates this well when she denies responsibility for a wrong she has committed in front of us. "I didn't do it," she says, and sometimes adds, "it was Maddy." We, too, participate in variations of this scene when we feel that choosing to deny rather than confess is the best for the situation and for us. Truly, man is born in sin and doesn't need to learn to misbehave. Satan...we wish he had no part of our lives, but he weaves himself around all aspects of it, and we either choose his influence or God's. To opt for God's means that the calibration of our spirit with His Holy Spirit must occur daily so that satan's voice cannot deceive us into believing that his definition of good is the same as God's. To opt for satan requires no diligence.
- Superbook: I found this resource on the web as I was searching for things to do with Elly during her Spring Break. She will be at Vacation Bible School in the mornings, and then with us, so I thought the Superbook video storytelling and games would add to her VBS experience. Its purpose is to teach children moral lessons using stories from the Bible. The videos are action-packed and beautifully illustrated.
- Yesterday was Jenny's first wedding gown trek, and Shani, Aunty Barbara, Joy and I joined her to offer our critical comments. Jenny was lovely in many of the gowns she donned and found a few she liked. We interjected what our favorites were, critiquing every aspect of the gown that bothered us, and oohing on those that were contenders. But there was no overwhelming sense from Jenny that the perfect gown had been found, no teary breakdown from her or any of us to signify success. We have more trekking to do.
